It’s Not Complicated — Just DO SOMETHING!
I haven’t posted a BLOG in a lonng time. I’ve been waiting to get everything right. “Do I need to change my hair?… Do I want to blog about changing my hair?.. Strategically is it time to talk about X or Y?.. Since it’s summer, do I talk about seasonal changes (seems like I talk about that all the time), or ignoring the hot seasons in pursuit of your goal (I seem to talk about that a lot too)?.. Will people want to see a follow up on being average and my daughter? Oh my goodness I don’t know!!! She shorts out and stares blankly for a month.
I put off writing a blog because there’s so much I wanted to tell you, that I couldn’t figure out what to tell you first, so I told you nothing. My goal of communicating with you on a regular basis wasn’t met. My goal of communicating about the dilemmas and mindsets of Prime Time Women wasn’t met. My goal of doing SOMETHING wasn’t met, so now I get to beat up on myself and start the cycle all over. What about you? Is there something you are putting off until you get it just right? Are you using the idea of “getting it just right” to justify doing nothing while you engage in the cycle of ‘I’m strong enough to do it….Oh no I didn’t do it again.’? I’ve said it before and I will continue to say it – Procrastination is rooted in Fear. If you are putting off doing something, ask yourself, “What am I afraid of?”
My fear has been that maybe I’m should be doing something else. Otherwise why aren’t I impacting more people? When you are doing what you are created to do, aren’t all the pieces supposed to just fall into place? Have you EVER seen something just FALL for no reason into the place it belongs? Me neither. Someone or something had to push it, make sure space was cleared for it to land, coordinate how far and fast it had to fall to land exactly where it was supposed to be….you get what I’m saying right. I’m beginning to suspect it’s the day to day process of DOING that creates the pieces, calculates the trajectory and creates the space for those pieces to fall into.
So rather than agonize over what we are supposed to be doing, let’s do what we can. You may not be able to meet with an agent for your book, but you can outline a chapter. You can’t sit down this evening with Tyler Perry to discuss your screenplay, but you can sit on your deck and refine the personality of your main character. Maybe you can’t qualify for a house right now, but you can carve out a space in your apartment to outline your financial strategies. You can’t undo 15 years of bad communication today, but you can initiate a conversation. Maybe you haven’t found a job, but you can create a blog (possibly right here on sepiaprimewoman.com) that will validate your voice in a world where you probably feel ignored. My point is that we are not children, and we don’t sit idly by and “let things happen” to us unless something isn’t functioning properly. It’s not that complicated….DO SOMETHING!
